Anterior and right lateral views of the geniohyoid of the suprahyoid group. The mylohyoid (also of the suprahyoid group) has been ghosted into the anterior view on the left side.

The Geniohyoid is a member of the Suprahyoid Group, which is composed of the:

  • Digastric
  • Mylohyoid
  • Geniohyoid
  • Stylohyoid

 

ATTACHMENTS:

  • The geniohyoid attaches from the mandible to the hyoid bone.

 

ACTIONS:

  • Depresses of the mandible at the temporomandibular joints (TMJs).
  • Flexes the neck at the spinal joints.
  • Elevates the hyoid bone.

 

NOTE: The geniohyoid lies entirely deep to the mylohyoid.
