The Fibularis Brevis is located in the Lateral Compartment of the (lower) leg. The muscles in the lateral compartment are:
- Fibularis longus
- Fibularis brevis
ATTACHMENTS:
- Distal lateral fibula to the base of the fifth metatarsal.
- The fibularis brevis attaches proximally onto the distal 1/2 of the lateral fibula.
ACTIONS:
- Everts (Pronates) the foot at the subtalar joint.
- Plantarflexes the foot at the ankle joint.
NOTES:
- The fibularis brevis used to be named the peroneus brevis; it was renamed at an Anatomy Congress in 1999.
- Eversion is the principal cardinal-plane (frontal-plane) component of the oblique-plane motion pattern of pronation.
