The Plantaris is located in the Superficial Posterior Compartment of the (lower) leg. The muscles in the superficial posterior compartment are:
- Gastrocnemius
- Soleus
- Plantaris
ATTACHMENTS:
- Lateral condyle of the femur to the calcaneus.
ACTIONS:
- Plantarflexes the foot at the ankle joint.
- Flexes the leg at the knee joint.
- Inverts (Supinates) the foot at the subtalar joint.
NOTES:
- The plantaris has a very short belly and an extremely long distal tendon.
- Inversion is the principal cardinal-plane (frontal-plane) joint action of the oblique-plane motion pattern known as supination.
