ATTACHMENTS:
- The transversus abdominis attaches from the inguinal ligament, iliac crest, thoracolumbar fascia, and the costal cartilages of ribs 7 through 12 to the abdominal aponeurosis.
ACTIONS:
- The transversus abdominis compresses the abdominal contents.
NOTES:
- The transversus abdominis is the deepest of the three anterolateral wall muscles.
- The transversus abdominis is functionally important for core (Powerhouse) stabilization.
- The transversus abdominis is sometimes referred to as the corset muscle.
