Anterior and right lateral views of the transversus abdominis.
ATTACHMENTS:

  • The transversus abdominis attaches from the inguinal ligament, iliac crest, thoracolumbar fascia, and the costal cartilages of ribs 7 through 12 to the abdominal aponeurosis.

 

ACTIONS:

  • The transversus abdominis compresses the abdominal contents.

 

NOTES:

  1. The transversus abdominis is the deepest of the three anterolateral wall muscles.
  2. The transversus abdominis is functionally important for core (Powerhouse) stabilization.
  3. The transversus abdominis is sometimes referred to as the corset muscle.
