The psoas major is stretched with extension of the thigh at the hip joint; and opposite-side lateral flexion of the lumbar spine.
Note: Because the psoas major is the only hip flexor that crosses the spine, adding in opposite-side (contralateral) lateral flexion of the trunk at the lumbar spinal joints is extremely important toward preferentially stretching the psoas major among the other hip flexors.
