The fibularis brevis of the lateral compartment of the leg.

The Fibularis Brevis is located in the Lateral Compartment of the (lower) leg. The muscles in the lateral compartment are:

  • Fibularis longus
  • Fibularis brevis

ATTACHMENTS:

  • Distal lateral fibula to the base of the fifth metatarsal.
    • The fibularis brevis attaches proximally onto the distal 1/2 of the lateral fibula.

ACTIONS:

  • Everts (Pronates) the foot at the subtalar joint.
  • Plantarflexes the foot at the ankle joint.

NOTES:

  1. The fibularis brevis used to be named the peroneus brevis; it was renamed at an Anatomy Congress in 1999.
  2. Eversion is the principal cardinal-plane (frontal-plane) component of the oblique-plane motion pattern of pronation.
