    The external and internal intercostal muscles are stretched with opposite-side (contralateral) lateral flexion of the trunk at the spinal joints.

     

    Notes:

    • The lateral flexion motion should be focused at the thoracic spine.
    • Flexion could be added to increase the stretch for the posteriorly oriented intercostals.
    • Extension could be added to increase the stretch for the anteriorly oriented intercostals.
