The muscles of the posterior forearm seen in this deep view are the:

      • Abductor pollicis longus
      • Extensor pollicis brevis
      • Extensor pollicis longus
      • Extensor indicis
      • Supinator

Also seen are the:

  • Brachioradialis
  • Extensor carpi radialis longus (cut)
  • Extensor carpi radialis brevis (cut)

Notes:

      • The abductor pollicis longus, extensor pollicis brevis, extensor pollicis longus, and extensor indicis are member of the deep distal four group of the posterior forearm.
      • The supinator is deep in the proximal posterior forearm.
      • The abductor pollicis longus, extensor pollicis brevis, and extensor pollicis longus all attach onto and move the thumb (“pollicis” means “thumb”).
      • The extensor indicis attaches onto and moves the index finger.
      • The abductor pollicis longus, extensor pollicis brevis, extensor pollicis longus, and extensor indicis also cross the wrist joint.
      • The supinator crosses the radioulnar joints and supinates the forearm.
      • The anatomic snuffbox is located between the distal tendons of the extensor pollicis brevis and extensor pollicis longus.
The muscles of the posterior right-side forearm seen in this deep view are the abductor pollicis longus, extensor pollicis brevis, extensor pollicis longus, extensor indicis, and the supinator.
