Rectus abdominis bilaterally. The external abdominal oblique is ghosted in with less density on the person's left side.

There are four muscles in the Anterior Abdominal Wall:

  • Rectus abdominis
  • External abdominal oblique
  • Internal abdominal oblique
  • Transversus abdominis

 

ACTIONS:

  • Flex the trunk at the spinal joints.
  • Laterally flex the trunk at the spinal joints.
  • Contralaterally rotate the trunk at the spinal joints.
  • Ipsilaterally rotate the trunk at the spinal joints.
  • Posteriorly tilt the pelvis at the lumbosacral joint.
  • Compress the abdominal contents.
