    The middle trapezius is stretched with protraction of the scapula at the scapulocostal (scapulothoracic) joint.

     

    Note: Medial rotation of the arm at the shoulder (glenohumeral ) joint can, via scapulohumeral rhythm, create increased scapular protraction, thereby increasing the efficacy of the stretch.
