- The scapula is one of the two bones of the shoulder girdle (the clavicle being the other).
- The scapula articulates
- the humerus distally, forming the shoulder (glenohumeral) joint.
- the thoracic rib cage wall proximally, forming the scapulocostal (scapulothoracic) joint.
NOTES:
- The word coracoid comes from Greek for raven (korax) and resembling (oid) because it resembles a raven’s beak.
- Acromion literally means tip of shoulder; Greek: akron means tip; omos means shoulder.
