- The pelvic bone is composed of the ilium, ischium, and pubis that have fused together.
- The pelvic bone articulates:
- with the femur distally, forming the hip (femoroacetabular) joint.
- the sacrum medially, forming the sacroiliac joint.
NOTES:
- The pelvic bone is also known as the coxal bone, the os coxa, the innominate bone, and the hip bone.
- The acetabulum of the pelvis is the socket of the hip joint. All three bones of the pelvic bone, the ilium, ischium, and pubis, unite at the acetabulum.
