The rectus capitis anterior is seen bilaterally; the rectus capitis lateralis is ghosted in on the left side.

The Rectus Capitis Anterior and Rectus Capitis Lateralis are members of the Prevertebral Group.

 

ATTACHMENTS:

  • The rectus capitis anterior and rectus capitis lateralis attach from the transverse process of the atlas (C1) to the occiput.

 

ACTIONS:

  • The rectus capitis anterior flexes the head at the atlanto-occipital joint.
  • The rectus capitis lateralis laterally flexes the head at the atlanto-occipital joint.
