The Levator Anguli Oris is a muscle of facial expression of the mouth. The muscles of facial expression of the mouth are:

  • Levator Labii Superioris Alaeque Nasi (also a muscle of fascial expression of the nose)
  • Levator Labii Superioris
  • Zygomaticus Minor
  • Zygomaticus Major
  • Levator Anguli Oris
  • Risorius
  • Depressor Anguli Oris
  • Depressor Labii Inferioris
  • Mentalis
  • Buccinator
  • Orbicularis Oris
  • Platysma

 

ATTACHMENTS:

  • Maxilla to the angle/corner of the mouth.

 

ACTIONS:

  • Elevates the angle/corner of the mouth.

 

NOTES:

  1. The contraction of the levator anguli oris to elevate the corner of the mouth contributes to the facial expressions of smiling and laughing.
  2. Contraction of the levator anguli oris will also show the canine teeth, creating what might be described as a Dracula expression.
  3. The zygomaticus major also elevates the corner of the mouth.
