The Levator Anguli Oris is a muscle of facial expression of the mouth. The muscles of facial expression of the mouth are:
- Levator Labii Superioris Alaeque Nasi (also a muscle of fascial expression of the nose)
- Levator Labii Superioris
- Zygomaticus Minor
- Zygomaticus Major
- Levator Anguli Oris
- Risorius
- Depressor Anguli Oris
- Depressor Labii Inferioris
- Mentalis
- Buccinator
- Orbicularis Oris
- Platysma
ATTACHMENTS:
- Maxilla to the angle/corner of the mouth.
ACTIONS:
- Elevates the angle/corner of the mouth.
NOTES:
- The contraction of the levator anguli oris to elevate the corner of the mouth contributes to the facial expressions of smiling and laughing.
- Contraction of the levator anguli oris will also show the canine teeth, creating what might be described as a Dracula expression.
- The zygomaticus major also elevates the corner of the mouth.
