The zygomaticus major. The zygomaticus minor and orbicularis oris have been ghosted in.

The Zygomaticus Major is a muscle of facial expression of the mouth. The muscles of facial expression of the mouth are:

  • Levator Labii Superioris Alaeque Nasi (also a muscle of fascial expression of the nose)
  • Levator Labii Superioris
  • Zygomaticus Minor
  • Zygomaticus Major
  • Levator Anguli Oris
  • Risorius
  • Depressor Anguli Oris
  • Depressor Labii Inferioris
  • Mentalis
  • Buccinator
  • Orbicularis Oris
  • Platysma

 

ATTACHMENTS:

  • Zygomatic bone to the angle/corner of the mouth.

 

ACTIONS:

  • Elevates the angle/corner of the mouth.

 

NOTES:

  1. The contraction of the zygomaticus major to elevate the corner of the mouth contributes to the facial expressions of smiling and laughing.
  2. The zygomatic minor also attaches onto the zygomatic bone.
